Curious about how the postseason works? Read below!

As we wrap-up the 2023 regular season, please see info below about postseason play. Playoff seeding and scheduling are determined by the BGYFL. As teams in the BGYFL are organized into three distinct levels (Gold D1, Gold D2, Silver), playoffs are organized by those divisions.

There will be two rounds of playoff games leading up to a championship for 9U-Varsity age levels. Note that as a developmental division, 8U teams are not included in official postseason games but may participate in Bowl games(s). 8U teams will receive more information about Bowl games from their respective coaches. There will also likely be bowl games for some silver teams who did not qualify for playoffs, stay tuned for more info.

Seeding and home field advantage are based on seeding points (not points scored in a game). See the points associated with the respective team on the BGYFL website linked below, as well as gameday times and locations: BGYFL Schedule (bgyfl-website-official.s3-website.us-east-2.amazonaws.com)

Scheduling

As for scheduling, the first-round playoff schedules will be released by the league on or around Wednesday 10/25/2023. It takes a lot of coordination across many orgs and field availability, so please be patient with the League.

Brackets

Gold Division 1 (D1) playoff bracket:

  • Teams: Varsity Gold D1, JV Gold D1, 11U Gold D1, 10U Gold D1, 9U Gold D1
  • The top 8 teams in the Gold D1 bracket, per age division, qualify for the first round of playoffs

Gold Division 2 (D2) playoff bracket:

  • Teams: Varsity Gold D2, JV Gold 2, 11U Gold D2, 10U Gold D2, 9U Gold D2
  • The top 8 teams in the Gold D2 bracket, per age division, qualify for the first round of playoffs

Silver playoff bracket:

  • Teams: Varsity Silver, JV Silver, 11U Silver, 10U Silver, 9U Silver
  • The top 8 teams in the Silver bracket, per age division, all colors (i.e. Navy, White, Black) qualify for the first round of playoffs
  • Note that the league is not hosting playoffs to teams outside the 1-8 slots, but there may be additional bowl games hosted by other towns, not by BGYFL. We’ll share more info as we get it.

Division Ties

In case of a tie in standings at the end of the regular season, standings will be determined as follows:
  1. First criteria: Head-to-head competition - only applies if all teams have played each other one time.

  2. Second criteria: Strength of schedule - teams will be awarded points equal to the number of wins of teams they have played plus 1. A bye win is a win but has no strength of schedule points.

  3. Third criteria: A BGYFL executive board supervised coin toss. Unless it pertains to the final playoff seed, in which case the tied teams will play a Kansas City Shoot-out.

  4. Additional criteria are established if there are 2 or more teams per division tied.
